Cherry Blossoms in Pretty Shillong

India's very own Sakura in Shillong.

Shillong feels like home!

I lost count the number of times I have been to this pretty northeastern capital town of Meghalaya. But then, I could never time my visit to Shillong during the cherry blossom season. After a long and patient wait, I finally did manage to make my way to Shillong in November 2021 and November 2022, twice during the Cherry Blossom Festival when the pink blooms beautifully paints the town and its outskirts in a pink hue.

The Cherry Blossom Festival is organized by Meghalaya Tourism in the last week of November every year to coincide with the blooming of these pretty pink flowers. Always keep a watch on the social media page of Meghalaya Tourism to know the dates of this festival.

I also got the chance to see cherry blossoms in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh in November, mostly. Besides Shillong, Meghalaya these pretty blooms are also found blooming in the hilly areas of Manipur and Nagaland.

When you are travelling on the Guwahati-Shillong highway, you will get the first glimpse of the pink cherry blossoms near Umiam Lake. The drive or the ride is usually scenic along this particualr route, but it becomes more scenic when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. The pink hues adds colour to the hilly landscape in the dry and cold winter months.

Here is a pictorial glimpse of these pretty pink-coloured cherry blossoms growing all around the picture postcard Shillong town.

 Thank you for stopping by!
